Silhouette Artist at a wedding - The apple of their (photographic) eye

I had to honour of being asked to cut silhouettes at Dan and Lucy wedding on bank holiday Sunday that has just passed.

It was a great day and the bride and groom looked great.

While I was there I meet a lovely photographer called Jon Stockham, of Apple Photography (http://www.applephotography.co.uk/), who very kindly took some photos of me at work.

I thought I'd share them here with you all so you can see the kind of thing I get up to at weddings.

Silhouette Artist at the Museum

"Silhouette Cutting by lamp light"

The Victorian Art of Silhouette Cutting is coming to the Florence Nightingale Museum on the Lambeth Palace Road, in London.

Night at the Musueum

The Florence Nightingale Museum is open late for a few nights in April as part of the 'Museums at Night initiative' organised by Culture 24 and funded by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and on Thursday 29th April 2010, they have asked me to attend to demonstrate my art.

"A great way of generating a buzz"

The Museum decided that a silhouettist would be a great way of generating a buzz and an entertaining way of getting visitors to engage with a contemporary art, of 'The Lady of The Lamp' herself.

Silhouette cutting in Interior Design

I was browsing the web today in my on-going mission to find information on the history and development of the art of silhouette cutting when I came across this great blog-post about silhouette designs:

I have to agree with Juile's comment:

"..'Balance' is a good word for what these silhouetted designs can bring to the walls of my rooms.."

But then I would wouldn't I :-).

Wedding Mount Cards for Silhouettes

As every wedding day is different and special I like to give the happy couple the options to personalise the mount cards which the silhouettes are presented in.

The beauty of choosing this option is:

  • That you can personalise it by adding a thank you message and date
  • You can have a silhouette motif of the happy couple which you get to use on other stationary if you wish to tie in a theme
  • You can choose your own colours/design

Silhouettes, Beards, and Books, but surprisingly no Bikes

I was at a book signing the other day where I had the great pleasure to meet two of my favourite TV cooks, Simon King and David Myers, or as they are better known the Hairy Bikers.

I've been enjoying thier 'Mum's Know Best' programme on the BBC over the last few weeks and have got a few tips off them. So I asked if I could return the favour and cut their silhouette for them.

As with most folk when I told them that I'm a silhouette artist they weren’t too sure what I was about to do. However, once I'd cut their silhouette profile they where absolutely delighted with the results. What do you think, are they hairy enougth?

You can find their reciepes at: http://www.hairybikers.com/ I can recomend the lemon drizzel cake!
